Celebration of India’s 74th Republic Day 2023 by Consulate General of India, Atlanta

The Consulate General of India in Atlanta celebrated the 74th Republic Day on January 26, 2023 with flag hoisting ceremony at the Consulate premises. Consul General unfurled the national flag which was followed by singing of the national anthem. The Consul General and members of Indian diaspora also paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. Thereafter, the address to the nation by the Hon'ble President of India, Droupadi Murmu, on the eve of Republic Day, was screened. The ceremony was attended by Indian nationals and members of Indian diaspora.

Later on January 27, 2023, the Consulate organized an evening reception on January 27, 2023 to commemorate the 74th Republic Day. The event was attended by over 250 persons, including the following dignitaries:

(ii) State Senator Brandon Beach

(iii) State Senator Sheikh Rahman

(iv) State Senator Nikki Meritt

(v) State Representative Long Tran

(vi) State Representative Shelly Hutchinson

(vii) State Representative Matt Reeves

(viii) Mayor of Sandy Springs Rusty Paul

(ix) Johns Creek Police Chief Mark Mitchell

(x) Fulton County School Board Members Kristin McCabe and Kimberly Dove

(xi) Consul Generals  and diplomatic staff based in Atlanta

During the event, Consul General underlined the importance of the Indian Constitution and shared excerpts from Hon’ble President’s Address to the Nation. Consul General highlighted the achievements made by India in various fields during its democratic journey of 75 years. Consul General also spoke about various activities of the Consulate and its extensive outreach efforts.  In the course of last few years, Consul General has interacted with several Congresspersons, Senators, and Governors, in addition to meeting many state dignitaries, mayors and commissioners.

The Consulate is also fortunate to have several Pravasi Bharatiya Divas awardees living under its jurisdiction. Mr. Raj Subramaniam, CEO and President of Fedex Cooperation situated in Memphis, has been conferred with the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman for 2023.

Six colorful and lively cultural dances were performed by the local artists depicting India’s rich cultural diversity. The cultural performances were applauded by one and all.
