The Consulate General of India, Atlanta accepts applications for visa through the Indian Visa Application and Processing Centreoperated by M/s Cox and Kings Global Services (CKGS).  Please apply for visa on the CKGS website: https://www.in.ckgs.us/ bulletand follow the procedure defined therein.

Residents of the following US States and Territories can apply at Atlanta: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virgin Islands.

Applications for visa and renunciation can be submitted together or application for renunciation should be submitted first and after getting the renunciation certificate, application for visa can be submitted.

Emergency Visa Service

The Consulate General of India grants an Emergency Visa Service only under the following circumstances:

-  For medical emergency
-  For unfortunate incident of loss of life
-  To attend to legal matters concerning self

Note: Whether or not the circumstance is considered to be eligible for emergency visa service is entirely at the discretion of the Consulate General of India.

e-VISA

E-Visa has been made available by the Government of India to citizens of certain countries, including the United States of America. Details of the scheme are available on the e-visa portal : https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html bullet

The applicants have to fill the application online and the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) will be sent to the applicants by e-mail.  The applicants do not have to send the passport or physical application anywhere. 

The applicants should carry a copy of Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) along with them at the time of travel.  The applicants must travel on the Passports on which they applied for e-Visa.  Entry will be allowed into India on the new passport even if ETA had been issued on the old passport, however in such cases, the traveler must also carry the old passport on which ETA was issued.

e-Visa is issued under 5 sub-categories viz., e-Tourist Visa (valid for 30 days, 1 year or 5 years), e-Business Visa, e-Medical Visa, e-Medical Attendant Visa and e-Conference Visa. 

For e-Tourist and e-Business visa, applicants may apply online minimum 4 days in advance of the date of arrival.  For e-Medical, e-Medical Attendant and e-Conference visa, applicants may apply online minimum 4 days in advance of the date of arrival with a window of 120 days.  Example: If the applicants apply on 1st September, they can select the date of arrival from 5th September to 2nd January.

Eligibility for e-Visa

International travellers whose sole objective for visiting India is recreation, sight-seeing,casual visit to meet friends and relatives, attending a short term yoga programme, short term courses on local languages, music, dance, arts & crafts, cooking, medicine etc. which should not be a formal or structured course/programme (courses not exceeding 6 months of duration and not issued with a qualifying certificate/diploma, etc),voluntary work of short duration (for a maximum period of one month, which do not involve any monetary payment or consideration of any kind in return), medical treatment including treatment under Indian systems of medicine, business purpose, as attendant to e-Medical visa holder, attending a conference/seminar/workshop organized by a Ministry or Department of the Government of India, State Governments or UT Administrations etc. & their subordinate/attached organizations & PSUs and private conferences organized by private persons/companies/organizations.

Passport should have at least six months validity from the date of arrival in India. The passport should have at least two blank pages for stamping by the Immigration Officer.International Travellers should have return ticket or onward journey ticket with sufficient money to spend during his/her stay in India.

International Travellers having Pakistani Passport or Pakistani origin may apply for regular Visa at the Consulate General of India.Not available to Diplomatic/Official Passport Holders or Laissez-passer travel document holders.Not available to individuals endorsed on Parent's/Spouse's Passport i.e., each individual should have a separate passport.Not available to International Travel Document holders other than Passport.

Liberalization of e-Visa Regime

The Government of India has liberalized the e-Visa regime, details of which are given below:

(i) A short duration e-visa fortourism of one-month validity with visa fee of US$ 25 has been introduced;

(ii) To encourage off-season (April-June) tourism, visa fee of US$ 25 has been reduced to US$ 10 during this period; and

(iii) e-Tourist visa of 5-year duration has been introduced.

DIPLOMATIC/OFFICIAL/LAISSEZ-PASSERS PASSPORT HOLDERS:

Diplomatic and Official Visa Application cases require the clearance of relevant authorities in India.  It is, therefore, advised that all Diplomatic/Official Visa applications be submitted well in advance of the travel date. 
  
Applications for Diplomatic and Official Passports may be filled up online at : https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/index.htmlbullet A print-out of the application form along with following documents may be submitted directly at the Consulate:

(i) Letter from US Department of State.

(iv) Letter of invitation from Indian agencies in case of bilateral visits.
(v) Passport with a validity of minimum of 180 days and at least 2 blank pages.

Guidelines for individuals working in designated U.S. agencies or technology areas applying for visa to visit India (Persons belonging to the undermentioned categories* applying for visa for India are required to submit their applications at least two weeks in advance to enable timely process of their cases).

Apart from submitting their passports and visa applications, the applicants will be required to submit the following additional information:

  • Full name:

  • Recent research work/publications, if any
  • Employment history (past five years)
  • Current Employer’s contact address and phone number
  • Purpose of visit to India
