The Consulate General of India, Atlanta acceptsapplications for passports through the Indian Passport Application Centreoperated by M/s Cox and Kings Global Services(CKGS).Please apply for passport on the CKGS website: bullet and follow the procedure defined therein.

Residents of the following US States and Territories can apply at Atlanta: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virgin Islands.

TATKAAL Passport Services

TATKAAL’ Passport Service is an ‘Emergency’ Passport Service.  All applicants (except below mentioned categories) residing in the jurisdiction of Consulate General of India, Atlanta and having valid Passport and valid Visa Status (Green Card/Visa Page/EAD/I–797A,etc) are eligible to apply for re-issue of passport under Tatkaal Passport Scheme.

Following category of applicants are not eligible to apply under Tatkaal Passport Scheme:

a) Passports Lost/Stolen/Damaged beyond recognition
b) Renewal of Short Validity Passport (SVP)
c) Change in Name
d) Change in Sex
e) Change of Appearance
f) Change/Correction of Date of Birth
g) Change/Correction of Place of birth
h) Change in Signature
i) Change of Father/Mother’s name

Processing Time for Tatkaal Services:

  • One working day (excluding CKGS’ processing time), if clearance from other passport issuing authorities/India is not required.
  • 30 days or more, ifPolice Verification Report is not clear or pending, or clearance from previous passport issuing authority/India is required.
  • 30 days or more in such cases as adoption, application on behalf of a minor from single parent, duplicate passport, incomplete documentation, etc.


  • Issue of passport is subject to provisions of Passport Act 1967 and relevant rules/regulations and no adverse police verification report. The final authority for the issuance of passport under the Tatkaal scheme lies with Consulate General of India, Atlanta and no claim for reimbursement of fees will be entertained.
  • No bookings or travel arrangements should be confirmed until a decision on issue of passport has been taken. The Consulate will not be responsible for any financial loss on account of bookings made in anticipation of obtaining a Passport under Tatkaal Passport Scheme.
  • It is a criminal offense under the Passport Act 1967 to furnish any false information or to suppress any material information with view to obtaining passport.

Applications for Diplomatic and Official Passports

Applications for diplomatic and official passports should be filled online at the portal: bullet by registering through “Register” link and loging-in through “User Login” link.  The print-out of the application may be submitted at the Consulate duly signed and photograph affixed along with the approval of the competent authority for issue of diplomatic/official passports.

1. Indian citizens living in India and abroad are advised to apply for urgent re-issuance of their passports in the following cases:

(i) Handwritten Passports

The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) phased out non-Machine Readable Passports (non-MRPs) with effect from 25thNovember, 2015. 

The Government of India has been issuing Machine Readable Passports since 2001. The Passports issued before 2001 and particularly those issued during mid-1990s with a validity of 20 years will fall in the category of non-MRPs. All handwritten passports with pasted photographs are also considered non-MRPs.Indian citizens holding such passports are advised to apply for re-issue of their passportsto avoid any inconvenience in obtaining valid visa or international travel.

(ii)Passports valid for less than six months

Many international travellers may not realise that having an unexpired passport is sometimes not enough to obtain visas or to enter certain foreign countries.Indian citizens travelling on passports which may expire in less than six months should renew their passportsbefore any upcoming international travel.

(iii)Exhaustion of visa pages

Some countries do not accept passports which may have fewer than two blank pages.There is no provision of additional booklets/pages and you have to apply for reissuance of passport following standard procedures. Frequent travellers may opt for Jumbo Passport containing 60 pages.

Global Entry Program (GEP) of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for Indian Citizens

Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program, which allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. Members enter the United States through automatic kiosks at select U.S. airportsbullet

How to Apply for Global Entry:

Citizens of India are eligible for Global Entry. Applications must be submitted through US Customs and Border Protection(CBP)’s Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) website bullet as Step 1. 

Application Process for Background Check for GEP:

1.Apply Online with US CBP: Apply and complete application process at TTP website  bulletof US CBP as Step 1.

2. For the applicant presently living in USA, after completion of Step ‘1’, he/she needs to submit the requisite information in the website of Global Passport Seva Project ( bullet) for completion of background check in India.  After completion of online submission, he/she should submit the physical application at the CKGS according to the consular jurisdiction, along with applicable fee,as per guidelines given on its website: bullet
