PASSPORT SERVICES

The Consulate General of India, Atlanta accepts applications for passport services through Indian Consular Application Centre operated by VFS Global. VFS Global is the only authorized Service Provider for the Embassy of India and the Consulates General of India across USA for Passport, Visa, OCI and Renunciation of Indian Citizenship services.

Residents of the following US States and Territories can apply at Atlanta: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virgin Islands.

The Consulate General of India, Atlanta does not accept the passport applications directly from the applicants by walk-in or post.

TATKAAL Passport Services


TATKAAL’ Passport Service is an ‘Emergency’ Passport Service.  All applicants (except below mentioned categories) residing in the jurisdiction of Consulate General of India, Atlanta and having valid Passport and valid Visa Status (Green Card/Visa Page/EAD/I–797A,etc) are eligible to apply for re-issue of passport under Tatkaal Passport Scheme.

Following category of applicants are not eligible to apply under Tatkaal Passport Scheme:

a) Passports Lost/Stolen/Damaged beyond recognition
b) Renewal of Short Validity Passport (SVP)
c) Change in Name
d) Change in Sex
e) Change of Appearance
f) Change/Correction of Date of Birth
g) Change/Correction of Place of birth
h) Change in Signature
i) Change of Father/Mother’s name

Processing Time for Tatkaal Services:

  • One working day (excluding VFS’ processing time), if clearance from other authorities is not required.
  • 30 days or more, if clearance from other authorities is required.

Note:

  • Issue of passport is subject to provisions of Passport Act 1967 and relevant rules/regulations and no adverse police verification report. The final authority for the issuance of passport under the Tatkaal scheme lies with Consulate General of India, Atlanta. No claim for reimbursement of fees will be entertained.
  • No bookings or travel arrangements should be confirmed until a decision on issue of passport has been taken. The Consulate will not be responsible for any financial loss on account of bookings made in anticipation of obtaining a Passport under Tatkaal Passport Scheme.
  • It is a criminal offense under the Passport Act 1967 to furnish any false information or to suppress any material information with view to obtaining passport.

Applications for Diplomatic and Official Passports

Applications for diplomatic and official passports may be filled online at the portal: https://portal4.passportindia.gov.in/Online/index.html by registering through “Register” link and loging-in through “User Login” link.  The print-out of the application may be submitted at the Consulate duly signed and photograph affixed along with the approval of the competent authority for issue of diplomatic/official passports.

Global Entry Program (GEP) of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for Indian Citizens

Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program, which allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. Members enter the United States through automatic kiosks at select U.S. airports

How to Apply for Global Entry:

Citizens of India are eligible for Global Entry. Applications must be submitted through US Customs and Border Protection(CBP)’s Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) website  as Step 1. 

Application Process for Background Check for GEP:

1. Apply Online with US CBP: Apply and complete application process at TTP website: https://www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-traveler-programs/global-entry of US CBP as Step 1.

2. For the applicant presently living in USA, after completion of Step ‘1’, he/she needs to submit the requisite information in the website of Global Passport Seva Project ( https://portal4.passportindia.gov.in/Online/welcomeLink ) for completion of background check in India.  After completion of online submission, he/she should submit the physical application at the VFS Global Application Centre, along with applicable fee, as per guidelines given on its website: https://visa.vfsglobal.com/usa/en/ind.
